UCLA Library to review Niki Karimi's ‘Final Whistle’

The Film and Television Archive Center of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is set to review ‘Final Whistle’ by Iranian writer-director Niki Karimi.

The Film and Television Archive Center of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is set to review ‘Final Whistle’ by Iranian writer-director Niki Karimi.

Following a special screening session to mark the 10th anniversary of ‘Final Whistle’ release, the UCLA will also present a Q&A with Karimi in person.  

‘Final Whistle’, made in 2011, has won several international awards, including the best film award from the Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival in Germany and three main awards of the Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinema in France.

‘Final Whistle’ is about Saman and Sahar who are documentary makers and have a peaceful life. But one day when Sahar tries to find a girl to make a documentary about, the troubles begin for them.

Besides Karimi who landed role to Sahar, the flick also stars Shahab Hosseini, Ashkan Khatibi, Shahab Hosseini, Mostafa Zamani, Hasti Mahdavifar and Atila Pesyani.

Best known for her striking on-screen performances in films by Iranian auteurs such as Darioush Mehrjouee, Tahmineh Milani, and Abbas Kiarostami, Niki Karimi established herself as a filmmaker with her directorial debut ‘One Night’ which was premiered in Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival in 2005.    

Established in 1965, the UCLA Film & Television Archive is “the second-largest repository of motion pictures and broadcast programming in the United States, after the Library of Congress, and the world's largest university-held collection.”

The Archive is a unit of the UCLA Library, one of the America's leading academic libraries in research, groundbreaking discoveries and innovation.
